There were 140 entries from different areas of Ontario and Western New York participating in the first ever North American "in mall" radio control racing car show held the weekend of October 24 and 25 at Seaway Mall in Welland.
Organizer Mark Frechette selected the Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre as the charity of choice to receive part of the proceeds from the show because he had a relative who benefited from the Centre’s services, and each of the cars carried the NPCC logo.
Mark says there are 35 local members who race on Saturdays during the winter months at the Merritton Community Centre, but the area racing car buffs wanted to show the general public what their hobby was all about so arrangements were made at the Seaway Mall for the weekend demonstration.
Mark says there was a great deal of interest from the public and a good number of questions were asked. He has hopes of holding similiar competitions at least four times a year at different malls.
