Future Shop stores gear up for 2nd “Have a Heart Campaign”

Posted: January 30, 2009       By: Jessica Davies

(January 30, 2009) Future Shop stores on Geneva Street in St. Catharines and Montrose Road in Niagara Falls are helping children with special needs at the Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre by selling paper hearts to their customers during the month of February.

Future Shop customers are invited to purchase a heart as part of the “Have a Heart Campaign” for a minimum of $2.00. Customers are invited to write their name on it, and the hearts are posted throughout the store. 100% of the proceeds goes to the NPCC.

Last year, the two stores raised $5,316 through selling hearts and other fundraisers such as dress down days; an additional $1000 was donated through Future Shop’s corporate Community Partner program which donates to charities supported by its staff.

Merchandising Supervisor Andrew Needham says the campaign was triggered because employees were deeply touched by the heart-warming stories related “on air” during Astral Media Radio Niagara’s three day radiothon in support of the Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre.  During the radiothon parents told countless stories of how their children’s lives were remarkably improved after receiving therapy at the Children’s Centre.

With the generous support of their customers, Future Shop employees hope to top last year’s fundraising results.

The Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre provides therapy for more than 3,000 children with physical or communicative disabilities from all 12 municipalities in Regional Niagara.
