The NPCC Foundation Story

In September of 1994 The Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre Foundation received government approval for incorporation.

The Foundations mandate is to raise and accept financial contributions to be used for improving the Centre’s facilities, some operating costs, and to purchase capital equipment needed by the Centre’s various departments. A 20 member board of Trustees directs the Foundation’s operations.

Although the majority of the Centre’s funding comes from the Ontario Government, there is an ongoing need to raise money for unfunded therapy positions, some operating costs, and to purchase special medical equipment that is used for treating our children.

The list of children who require treatment by Centre therapists is increasing at a rapid rate, resulting in a waiting period for children who should be receiving treatment immediately, but lack of funding does not make this possible, and some of the children in the Centre’s care have more than one disability.

At the present time, there are more than 580 children waiting for over 850 services.  Waiting is an agonizing experience for parents and children, but with financial support from a generous public, service clubs, community groups, businesses and special events, it is possible to raise the necessary funding that can decrease, or hopefully someday, even eliminate the waiting period so that the required therapy can commence immediately.

To maintain even the present level of service requires raising more than an additional $479,613.00 to the Centre’s annual base.  To eliminate the waiting list entirely would require another $500,000.00 for a total of almost one million dollars more annually.  The NPCC Foundation has a objective of raising as many dollars as possible to ensure the delivery of therapy services and the purchase of special medical equipment.
